DETECTION AND MORPHOLOGICAL IDENTIFICATION OF EIMERIA SPECIES IN MIGRATORY BIRDS AND CHICKENS IN SOME POULTRY FARMS IN KADUNA NORTH LGA OF KADUNA STATE

Poultry is an important source of protein and income for several households in Nigeria. However, the poultry industry threatened by outbreaks infectious diseases which may spread through interaction wild or migratory birds with poultry. The study aimed to detect morphologically identify Eimeria species from faecal samples chickens, pigeons African fire finches collected different farms Kaduna metropolis a view determining role transmission coccidiosis. Two hundred nine (209) were freshly 91 61 pigeons, 57 examined presence oocysts using Wisconsin flotation technique; identification was based on morphological characteristics sporulated oocyst. oocyst detected all sampling locations, seven identified namely E. tenella, brunetti, acervulina, necatrix, tropicalis, labbeana, columbae. brunetti both chickens while necatrix only chicken. On other hand, columbae found pigeons. especially acutely pathogenic tenella poses significant challenge production.
